I look at recent book reviews too, and if a book doesn't have any reviews - I have to admit I get skeptical.

It doesn't need 500 reviews to catch my attention, just 3 or 4 would be great.

I think that the best thing to do is to talk to other bloggers (or Indie authors on Twitter or forums if you don't have a blog), and ask them to write an honest review in exchange to one of theirs. Or, I know with the blog, ask your readers to write a review (as long as you're not putting out a book every week, I'm pretty sure some will be good with it.)

If people stumble upon your book and it has 3,4,5 reviews, I personally believe you're good to go.

Also, I've seen some good book review sites - but Kirkus is insane. If it going to become the norm, we need to tear it down.Radhikahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05703159120920656488noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3318840210070768346.post-23567739062666820242011-12-02T05:17:42.223-08:002011-12-02T05:17:42.223-08:00The Kirkus thing is crazy. Especially considering I'd wager the only people that care about Kirkus reviews are bookstores and libraries, which often won't stock Indie Pubbed books anyway.

But I rarely look at reviews to be honest. With movies my favorite ones are always low rated. I just have different tastes. I like to discover my own opinions on a book, since they are probably much different then most reviewers.Emily Marshallhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07073350248209507278noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3318840210070768346.post-15578197106216709462011-12-01T12:19:46.939-08:002011-12-01T12:19:46.939-08:00I read book reviews and they help me decide which ...I read book reviews and they help me decide which books to buy. I think the Kirkus "pay per review" thing is crazy. I always pay more attention to the professional reviews on my Nook before I download. I'm upset to think some of these will be paid for by the author in the future. And what about authors from small presses? They'll be overlooked because they can't buy reviews? That's just ridiculous.Kate Fallhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12856887940900664692noreply@blogger.com
