Whatcha Readin'? (or Family Reading Time!)

Tip of the Day: Make sure all your windows are closed before turning on the heat....

What are the other members of your household reading? Do you share reading tastes? Can you get your adult housemates to read MG/YA?

My manpanion is reading:

1) THE DARK TOWER VII by Stephen King. You know the reader is serious about finishing the series when he takes an 843-page hardcover book in his airplane carry-on across the country.

2) THE NEW EARTH by Eckhart Tolle. He read THE POWER OF NOW after his mom recommended it, so I handed him this "sequel".

3) GREGOR THE OVERLANDER by Suzanne Collins is on deck. Yay! I finally convinced him to read THE HUNGER GAMES and then he blew through that and CATCHING FIRE and wanted to know what else SC wrote. I brought home GREGOR. I haven't read it yet so he may be turning me onto an MG novel!

Oh, man, I recommend books to people all the time but I don't think any of the adults have been converted to YA! But I do love to recommend books. Plus I have lots of teen nephews and nieces and a 10-year-old of my own so I get to buy them books. Still, I wish adults would take my YA recommendations seriously. They'd be so happy!

I'm encouraging the manpanion to read YA. I'm going to give him Spanking Shakespeare. LOL I think that one will work for him. He typically reads nonfic (e.g., tattoo books, rocker bios, etc)

My kids read YA--we all devour it!

I loaned a writer friend of mine FEED by MT Anderson, and she encouraged her manpanion to read it. He did, and loved it. He devoured it in a day. I wish mine would read the books I read, but he's just not a fiction person. He's non-fiction all the way, and I'm not a non-fic person. Ah well... :)

Tabitha -- FEED is a good idea! I should ask John to read that. I think he'd like it. He's a huge fan of ENDER'S GAME and I haven't read that yet either!

Rhonda -- see if your manpanion will read THE HUNGER GAMES?

Kate -- try reccing a book to an adult *without telling them it's a YA.* See what happens and report back!

My son LOVED the Gregor books! Yay for the manpanion reading YA! I don't know if he cares for fantasy stuff much, but Jonathan Stroud's BARTIMAEUS trilogy is a lot of fun. (dark, though).

Right now I am reading Testimony by Anita Shreve. Brent pretty much only reads ESPN and beer magazines :) The only book, that I know of, that we have ever BOTH read is The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch. I did recently reread The Earth, My Butt, and Other Big Round Things that you gave me as a b-day present one year!! I like that book.

Manina -- I still need to read Jodi Picoult! Ack! Can't keep up with my reading list! :) But I'm glad you liked the YA I gave you.
