Birthday Giveaway!!!

Tip of the day: It's my birthday! Please, have a cupcake (or two or three) in my honor!

What am I doing to celebrate, you ask? Well, tonight my family is taking me here for dinner. And yes, I fully intend to have this for dessert:

I have a present waiting for me already on the kitchen counter, but like a good little girl, I haven't peeked. Yet.

Otherwise, I will spend some of my morning working out, and then the rest of my morning writing. As for the afternoon - maybe I will splurge and spend it reading!!

Most importantly, because it's my birthday, I've decided to give away a book in three different places - my personal blog, the Author2Author blog, and twitter. Enter to win in all three places if you'd like - I don't mind at all!! You know, because they say it's much more fun to give than to receive!

Okay, I admit, there's another reason. I'm trying to get people to get over their fear of reading a novel-in-verse. It makes me very sad when I hear someone is afraid to try it. You don't want me to be sad on my birthday, right?

See, there is nothing to fear, I promise! There are characters you can relate to. There is a story that will keep you turning the pages. It may be told in a bit different format and somewhat poetic, which in my books helps bring out the emotions, but it is still a NOVEL!!

To enter to win a signed copy of FAR FROM YOU, all you have to do is tell me you've read one of my books and why people shouldn't be scared OR that you are excited to read one of my books, which will make me SO happy on my birthday.

I'll have Kate announce the winner on Monday! (Sorry, contest open to US residents only. You have until midnight EST Saturday, 2/6 to enter.)

So go. Comment, please! It's my birthday - make my day!!!!

Happy Birthday to you!! I'll admit I was reluctant to read in verse as well. I read I Heart You, You Haunt Me and loved it. Now I'm looking forward to reading Far From You and Chasing Brooklyn.

Sign me up too! A signed copy of your book is swoon worthy, so I just have to come by and comment everywhere.

Have a wonderful, happy, exciting day!

I haven't read one of your books, yet. But, I'm not afraid of any book. I avoid those with with potential for revulsion (graphic sex, gore, nasty violence) but that's about it. Happy Birthday! Out of the Dust by Karen Hesse is written in verse, isn't it? She won a Newbery for that one. Not frightening at all.

Happy Birthday!

I've read I Heart You, You Haunt Me. It was such a beautiful book and it made me totally sob. Anyway, there is no reason to be afraid of novels-in-verse. They're easy to read, they go quickly, and the writing is so beautiful!!! I really want to read the others! :) Sign me up for this contest!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, LISA!!!

I've read ALL of your books. My hardback of Far From You is actually falling apart, so this would save me a trip to Borders!

Seriously, I've said it a MILLION times, but verse = awesome. Especially the way you do it. What others do in 5 sentences, you do in 5 words. That really is like my motto for the day!

Have a great birthday, Lisa!

<3,
Lena

Happy Birthday Lisa!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE your books. They are so awesome and I'm constantly amazed at the emotion, story, and character building you get through in so few words. You're writing is awesome and completely inspiring.

Happiness to you on your B-day. I'll try to eat a cupcake in your honor!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!
I fell in love with the verse style of writing while I was reading Chasing Brooklyn. I was a little intimidated at first but soon found myself woundering what was I so afaid of in the first place. I thinks it's such a beautiful style of writing and won't hesitate to pick up another book written in this style.

I've not yet had a chance to read one of your books, but as I hear they're fantastic, I am super excited to read one! Or two. Definitely at least two. Maybe 3?

Happy birthday! I hope it's a great one. :-)

Happy birthday!

Do not be afraid, folks. Verse novels are actually faster-paced reads than prose novels!

Hi, I know I'm too late, but I just wanted to say: A) I saw you speak at Seattle SCBWI and I'm excited to read your books. Your talk was wonderful. B) One of the most exquisite novels of all time and one of my favorites is Aurora Leigh by Elizabeth Barrett Browning. That is a novel in verse and it is completely accessible, heart-wrenching and gorgeous. And C) Happy Birthday!!!
