"In these hard economic times..." (or Make Me Laugh Already!)

Tip of the Day: Refreshing your email 502 times a day does not make news come any faster.

In the YA section at my library, there are four shelves of released-in-the-past-six-months "new" books. So many great great titles! But what is lacking on these shelves?

Anyone?

Anyone?

Bueller?

HUMOR!

I mean, I'd love to read a humorous YA like "Ferris Bueller's Day Off"! The closest I've gotten with new books lately are the hilarious:

(read these and lol)

That's not to say there isn't great stuff, including this dark fantasy:

and this contemporary, serious novel:

plus this historical fiction:

But in order to appreciate the brilliance of some of these more serious works, I need to intermix them with some light, fun, lol reading!

Any suggestions?

And while we're on the subject, I want to write a hilarious MG or YA. What would some fun plot situations be that could expand into a funny novel?

Ferris Bueller was a book?!

Deena - you need to read SOUL ENCHILADA by David Macinnis Gill. Great story and funny!! I'm reading it right now and I've laughed out loud several times.

I would like to argue your Tip of the Day. You don't actually know that refreshing your email doesn't make news come faster. You're just guessing, aren't you?

Have you read THE BIG SPLASH by Jack Ferralio yet? I really, really want to read it. There were some funny authors at Rochester's Teen Book Festival!

Summer, no Ferris Bueller wasn't a book. I just want a book with that kind of teen humor.

Lisa -- thanks for the rec! I will check it out!

Kate -- I did read The Big Splash. It reminds me a lot of Getting the Girl! Really good and hilarious.

I'm reading the new Meg Cabot and that's funny as always. And I was looking for to the Match Made in Highschool one Tina recommended because it was so funny, but I think we'll have to wait longer.

I agree, I wish there were more funny books too. Why does everyone want to be so serious right now? Hopefully there will be a few more coming out shortly.

Yep, A Match Made in High School will be released in Feb 2010 and OMG, FUNNY FUNNY stuff.

I'm trying to think of what else I've read funny lately. I need to get my hands on Meg's latest Being Nikki!

Oh thanks for this post! I'm at a loss, and I definitely need a little levity to break my brooding cycle.

Em -- of course! The new Meg Cabot! I'm on it.

Tina -- I can't wait for MATCH.

GhostGirl -- yes! It's time for SMILES! :)

I would love to see more humor on the shelves, too.
How about MODELS DON'T EAT CHOCOLATE COOKIES (Erin Dionne) or MY BIG NOSE AND OTHER NATURAL DISASTERS (Sydney Salter)?

Jen -- you're right! Those were both really cute and had me giggling. I read them already, but to others looking for humorous reads: check them out!
